Barbra Streisand, a staple of the Hollywood glitterati, went too far out on a limb recently in her online defense of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who she claimed was the victim of a plot by conservatives to use her personal life to tarnish her public one.
Writing on X, the singer and actress said Willis is guilty of nothing more than wanting a private relationship with Nathan Wade, the subordinate prosecutor she hired in her investigation of Trump and 18 co-defendants they have charged with racketeering related to Georgia’s 2020 election results.
“How silly that the Republicans want to have Fani Willis fired. For what? Thinking a woman can’t have a private life as well as a professional one? Men do it all the time! How ridiculous is this?” Streisand said on Monday.
“Trump and his allies are attacking fans Willis the DA who is prosecuting him for attempting to overthrow the will of the voters in Georgia. She has a private relationship with one of the prosecutors. This has nothing to do with the facts of the case and Trump’s brazen attempt to pressure the Secretary of State to ‘find’ more votes for him and to put false electors in front of Congress. It is just another diversion by Trump,” she added.
Followers were quick to note Streisand’s narrative retelling of Wade’s hiring, which came with a hefty $728,000 payday at taxpayers’ expense. Others pointed out her claim under oath that she didn’t begin a sexual relationship with Wade until after she hired him, which was directly contradicted by a former friend who testified their relationship stretched as far back as 2019.
The Daily Wire grabbed some of the best shots taken at Streisand’s expense.
“Could you genuinely be this clueless? Corruption in the pursuit of your ‘private life’ is called a crime. A bank robber is also pursuing his ‘private life to build liquid equity,’” author Gad Saad posted in response.
“I can’t be sure this isn’t actually Babylon Bee…” Fox Business host David Asman remarked.
“Today I learned ‘having a private life’ is giving your lover a million taypayer (sic) dollars,” another account commented.
“Perhaps the dumbest woman on the planet,” added another.
“It’s not private when you sleep with your employees and pay them more than people you aren’t sleeping with…” X user Brian Clowdus posted.
Willis testified last Thursday in a hearing that may result in her dismissal from the case against Trump. Judge Scott McAfee previously said he would not entertain Willis’s motion to dismiss the case, saying all the facts about her relationship with Wade would be vigorously explored before the end of the trial.
“Because I think it’s possible that the facts alleged by the defendant could result in disqualification, I think an evidentiary hearing must occur to establish the record on those core allegations,” he said Thursday.
The high-stakes nature of the hearing was too much for Willis, who wore her dress backwards, and Wade who stormed out of the courtroom as the defense team began calling witnesses.
